Delivery of Curriculum Policy 2010
Rationale
The curriculum places learners at the centre of the learning process.
Purpose
The curriculum will have emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy and on a broad education across a range of learning areas. It describes the key competencies students need in order to live, learn, work and contribute as active members of our community.
Objectives
- The school will teach the National Curriculum as required by the Ministry of Education and the Religious Education Programme as required by the Catholic Bishops of New Zealand.
- The school’s curriculum design and practice will begin with the premise that all students can learn and succeed.
- A variety of learning and teaching styles, strategies and resources will be employed as appropriate to the needs of students; guidelines relating to these will be provided in schemes.
- Teachers will use a multiple range of assessment tools to monitor and report on student progress against the National Standards.
- The school’s Leadership Team will support and monitor staff in their planning, programmes and evaluation of curriculum. The Principal will ensure that regular reports will be given to the Board of Trustees relating to curriculum achievement and development.
- Barriers to students’ learning will be identified and the school will seek appropriate interventions to address these.
- The school’s curriculum recognises the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and the bi-cultural foundations of Aotearoa New Zealand.
- The school’s curriculum reflects New Zealand’s cultural diversity and values the uniqueness of its people histories and traditions.
- Voluntary assistance will be encouraged as appropriate from the parents and local community to help meet the curriculum goals.
- The school will continue to create opportunities to inform parents about the curriculum.
- Professional development will provide on-going support to teachers to maintain a sound foundation for curriculum delivery including pedagogical growth in appreciating the need to identify learning needs, developing student engagement, processes for differentiation and adapting to various learning styles.
